Notes |
- The team will study how the data can be used and develop prototypes for an innovative unfolding telescope for a nanosat constellation giving the required ground resolution (7 metres) with frequent revisit rates, 2020-12-07.
- Today we received a 12U CubeSat OpenKit from our partner Open Cosmos. We will be using this satellite development platform to test and integrate our space telescope as part of our UK Space Agency NSIP project.
- Spanish Earth observation satellite provider Satlantis has bought a majority stake in British university spin-out SuperSharp to expand into the thermal imaging market. SuperSharp is developing a foldable thermal infrared telescope that would enable satellites as small as 12U, or the size of 12 cubesats, to provide images with a 6-meter ground sampling distance. SpaceNews, 2023-04-27.
- Unfolding, self-aligning thermal space telescopes for high resolution Earth Observations, Thermal 2023.
- SuperSharp recently won an 18-month project within ESA’s ‘InCubed-2’ programme, which was funded by the UK Space Agency and benefits from ESA’s in-house technical expertise. This project will see SuperSharp develop a large aperture, TIR imaging payload with extreme-telephoto, wide-field optics, and a multi-sensor array, 2024-04-10.

Description |
SuperSharp is developing a foldable thermal infrared telescope that would enable satellites as small as 12U, or the size of 12 cubesats, to provide images with a 6-meter ground sampling distance.
Super-Sharp Space Systems develop thermal infrared space telescopes for Earth Observation. Their unfolding self-alignment technology enables them to fit big telescopes in small satellites; providing end users with thermal imagery of the Earth with unprecedented detail, at a high frequency and low price point.
