- Intelsat asks bankruptcy court to clear roadblock for Spaceflight launch business sale, 2022-05-29.
- NRO signs agreements with commercial providers of hyperspectral imagery. The companies selected are BlackSky, HyperSat, Orbital Sidekick, Pixxel, Planet and Xplore.
- BlackSky is incorporating the Inmarsat and Addvalue inter-satellite data relay system, IDRS, in its next-generation satellite design. Addvalue has designed a new Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite antenna system that allows full communications coverage when satellites are not in view of a ground station. The IDRS terminal uses Inmarsat’s satellite network and gives LEO satellites always-on communications for mission tasking and data monitoring. The terminal also supports telemetry and command communications, troubleshooting and restoring operations.

- BlackSky reported net income of $675,000 for the Q3 2023, improving from a net loss of $13.1 million reported for the same period a year ago. The company brought in $21.3 million in third-quarter revenue, up 26% from a year prior. The “primary driver for the positive net income” was the company’s accounting practices related to “warrant liability exposure.” Excluding that impact, BlackSky would have reported a third-quarter net loss of about $16.3 million. BlackSky tightened its 2023 revenue outlook to a range of between $84 million and $90 million, a reduction on the top end from its previously stated guidance of as much as $96 million. It had $51.5 million in cash and equivalents on hand at the end of the third quarter, with a contract order backlog of $252 million, CNBC, 2023-11-08.
- BlackSky inks $50 million deal to supply imagery services and satellites to Indonesia, SpaceNews, 2024-02-08. BlackSky will work with Thales Alenia Space to establish the building blocks of a sovereign Earth imaging satellite network tailored to Indonesia’s national security needs. BlackSky expects to deliver two third-generation electro-optical imaging satellites to the Indonesian MoD in about two years, O’Toole said. Thales Alenia Space will develop the synthetic aperture radar satellites.
